A lucky fifth grade class is going on an art drop this morning! And what an AMAZING day it is!! OMG. A perfect 10 the weather man said. Anyway, we are taking our work from this winter when artist Bren Bataclan was here and dropping it out in Plymouth. We are so excited to share our work! Our hope is that people will take it with them, and make their day better! NMES was so inspired by Bren, I still see students creating work in his style. Hope you enjoy the work. Please email me or share photos on Twitter @NMES_Art_Studio or email me: jmmccarthy@plymouth.k12.ma.us

Keith Haring
In our art studio we are focusing on "Street Artists". Bren Bataclan, that created a mural at our school, is considered a street artist. The reason why, is because he leaves art in the streets for people to look at and take with them, with a promise to do more good in the world.
We are talking this week about Keith Haring. A street artist who became popular in the 1980s with his "cookie cutter" people and animals. He would go into subways and draw with chalk. We watched a news story about it and the story said that he would sometimes get arrested for his actions. The artists at NMES had a great discussion about why someone might be breaking the law if they wrote on someone elses property. The students liked his work because of the simple colors and lines. It's fun!!
If you would like to explore Keith Haring more with your child please visit this website: www.haringkids.com
It has a lot of great games, interactive activities and information about the artist.
Enjoy!

Bren Bataclan
Is coming to NMES!!!!
The week before winter break we will have Boston based artist come to NMES to create a mural. Students will see Bataclan working and help with ideas. This is such a great opportunity for our students to see how artists work and how it impacts the community.

Working, working, working
Students at NMES have been working very hard this fall on becoming true artists. Learning the creative process, developing ideas, researching, talking to other students about their work, collaborating, revising and editing.
As an art educator, it has been so great to see students apply knowledge and create wonderful works of art that they are really inspired by and have vested interest in creating.
Please visit Artsonia.com often to see your child's work and support the NMES Art Studio. Last year, with your contributions, we were able to buy an iPad mini for our art room and this year we have been able to add to our library by getting a subscription to Scholastic Art Magazine.
Thanks again and I'll post pictures soon. Be sure to follow us on twitter @NMES_Art_Studio
