Kente Cloth: Cloth of Kings

Traditionally Kente Cloth was a woven cloth made for Kings.

In the western nation of Ghana on the continent of Africa.

Kente cloth was traditionally made by men from the Ashanti Tribe. Here a man is weaving on a large loom.

Here is a finished Kente cloth. There are many colors on the cloth. Each color has a special meaning. What colors do you see?

Here is another Kente cloth. There are patterns. What patterns do you see? What shapes and lines do they use to create patterns?

Now it is time for you to create a Kente Cloth.

Think of the different colors you will use and what meanings they will bring to your Kente Cloth.

Also, think of a variety of patterns you will use on your weaving.
